Global Beats, Rhymes, and Life

Get down with this Mantra

During this wonderfully balmy time of year, dozens of festivals pop up all over our city. On any given weekend, you can find an outdoor celebration that reveals the best in film, comedy, art, music, food, wine, antiques, and even maps. This weekend brings us the second annual Mantra International World Music Festival, an event celebrating the cultural evolution of global beats. It’s all about presenting locals with traditional dance, art, music, film, and customs from all over the world in just three days. Beginning tonight there will be performances by soul/R&B/jazz vocalist LaVeda Davis, Latin vocalist Sophya Romans, rap artist Mocachino, classical guitarist Carl Ferrari, and some master drumming from Ra of the Body Mind Soul World Drummers. There will also be dance ensembles performing, fashion shows, and informative lectures about protecting and caring for the environment. Today’s happenings will take place at Indra Lounge from 8:00 p.m. to midnight; tomorrow the event shifts to the Design District at Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant (4029 N. Miami Ave., Miami).
Feb. 9-11, 8 p.m.
