More than Socks

Pablo Cano’s puppets are artistic wonders

Remember Lamb Chop? Shari Lewis’s sock puppet with the weird hair was kinda scary, but Pablo Cano’s Musical Marionettes put that little lady to shame. Using objects that have been discarded by people with zero artistic vision, Cano creates puppets, large and small, that tell stories through song and jerky dance. He has created a stage show that incorporates his stunning artwork with theater-quality productions that have captivated audiences at venues from art galleries to the windows of chic Manhattan boutique Hermès. A Cuban who has lived in Miami since he was one year old, Cano is influenced by Cuban artists like Enrique Riveron and Amelia Pelaez, as well as by the works of American pop artists.
