They sound like something out of a snow-covered, quaint New England Christmas: horse-drawn carriage rides. Except this holiday season, carriages will roll past palm trees, swank stores, and Mediterranean architecture in downtown Coral Gables. As part of the Holidays in Downtown promotion, free fifteen-minute carriage rides will be offered to shoppers the two Saturdays before Christmas. Rest your weary feet! Regain the holiday spirit! Indulge your inner Cinderella! You can also actually do some holiday shopping; Coral Gables boasts 200 designer boutiques and specialty stores in its downtown area. When you are done, grab a post-shopping drink at one of 40 restaurants and cafés. There’s a bonus: The Business Improvement District is offering shoppers two free hours of parking at four garages (behind the Miracle Theatre, behind John Martin’s, across from Publix, and behind Fritz & Franz Bierhaus). Now that’s holiday cheer. Free horse-drawn carriage rides are available from 5:00 to 7:00 tonight and December 23. All rides launch from the corner of Miracle Mile and Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
