Meet the New Neighbor

But don’t bring a casserole to this block party

Emmanuel Lawson’s field of expertise is New World cooking, savory delicacies influenced by his African homeland and richly spiced with American soul. The chef from Togo first made his local reputation at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Now Chef Credo, as he is affectionately known, has launched his own catering business and opened a Liberty City restaurant, Chef Credo International Cuisine. He has been at this location for six months, and to introduce his spicy, affordable cooking to his new neighbors, Lawson is inviting everyone to Chef Credo’s fall block party, a free, fun-filled evening of music and delicious food. “His food has African-Caribbean flair. And he cooks to order, which is different from other soul food restaurants that keep their food hot by placing it under the heat lamps,” says PR rep Doris J. Span. “I love his conch fritters! He has just the right seasonings, and he sells four of them for just two bucks.” Popular 103.5 The Beat DJ Papa Keith will pump out the jams at today’s outdoor fest while Chef Credo offers those famous fritters as well as chicken wings and his signature dish, Best Banana Pudding.
