Believe it or not, South Florida history dates back further than 1980’s Mariel Boatlift. The Historical Museum of Southern Florida’s 31st annual Harvest Festival celebrates South Florida history at the Fair & Expo Center today and Sunday, featuring eleven local author/historians speaking about various area landmarks; an impressive collection of more than 100 antique cars, including a 1925 Alvis 12/50; and your festival standards -- food, entertainment, children’s activities, and, of course, shopping.

“For many, Harvest signals the beginning of the holiday shopping season,” says Alison Prieto, museum publicist. “This year we have 40 new crafters, bringing the total vendors to 175.” Among the shopping selection, she says, are handmade crafts, holiday decorations, toys, jewelry, handbags, quilts, and soaps – generally all the quirky, original things that holiday mall shopping won’t yield.
