Alfresco Reggae Riddim

In many other cities of Miami’s size, citizens can be seen doing strange things on the weekends: They spread blankets on the grass, carry their food in baskets, and congregate at their neighborhood parks for some outdoor fun. Here you’re more likely to drive past a practically empty green space en route to the mall on a Sunday afternoon. The City of Miami Beach is trying its hardest to bring residents and visitors out to mingle under blue skies now that the weather has cooled down to a comfortable level. “We’ve launched a series of free events offering live entertainment – concerts, plays, opera – as outdoor events in alternating city parks every month,” explains Irene Lui, public information specialist for the City of Miami Beach. Today’s free concert really speaks to the local youth demographic. Local favorites the Nag Champayons and El Chino & DreadLion will rock the North Shore Park and Youth Center with Latin funk, hip-hop, and reggae. The music begins today at 3:00 p.m. Call 305-673-7730, or visit www.miamibeachfl.gov.
