Beyond Bling

Thanks, Lil’ Wayne. The rapper who coined the term bling back in 1999 created slang that has become so ubiquitous even grandmothers use it. The kind of ostentatious jewelry the Cash Money Millionaires were rapping about probably won’t be in proliferation at this year’s Miami Beach Antique Jewelry and Watch Show. Respected antique dealers from around the world will flock to the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach) to display their wares for three days, ending this evening. Visitors will find among this year’s finest baubles a diamond- and emerald-encrusted guitar-shape Cartier pin that belonged to noted bling-lover Elton John, as well as the Harry Winston Falcon. This eight-million-dollar re-creation of the fictional Maltese Falcon statuette is made from rubies, coral, malachite, and ten pounds of gold. Check out the vintage display today from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for a three-day pass. Call 305-532-3467, or visit www.dmgantiqueshows.com.
