Mexican cabaret artist Astrid Hadad is famous for visually provocative, politically savvy, compelling performances that involve elaborate costumes and weird prop combinations -- like a tutu paired with inflated condoms on sticks. Her surrealistic show takes Mexican stereotypes, turns them inside out, and remixes them into a bold, strong, and unique act that she has taken all over the world. Hadad will shake up the Colony Theater (1040 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach) for two nights of unforgettable performances October 20 and 21. Before that, she will make the perfect participant for the panel discussion Cultural Striptease: Sex, Humor, and Latin Identity. To kick off Tigertail Productions latest season in erudite style, a group of Miamis cultural leaders will join Hadad in a lively and entertaining discussion this evening at 6:30 at Etra Fine Art. After the free discussion, stay for a reception featuring light Latin fare and cocktails provided by Frida Kahlo tequila. Call 305-324-4337, or visit www.tigertail.org.
