Cancer SucksBy Lyssa OberkreserPublished on October 12, 2006Yep, cancer is the worst and it can strike anyone. Male or female, rich or poor, the evil cells don’t care how cool you are. And they certainly don’t give a damn if you are a fabulous New York cartoonist who is finally getting married at age 43. Marisa Acocella Marchetto is a self-described “shoe-crazy, lipstick-obsessed, wine-swilling, pasta-slurping, fashion-fanatic, single-forever, about-to-get-married big-city girl cartoonist” who found a lump in her breast, decided to kick cancer in the ass, and chronicle her battle in the colorful (in both illustration and language) graphic memoir Cancer Vixen. Marchetto’s cartoons have appeared in The New Yorker and Glamour, and her memoir is already set to hit the silver screen with Cate Blanchett in the starring role. You can meet the sassy author tonight at 7:30 at Books & Books.
