Feel the Beat! Brazilian Music for Percussion Ensemble

Brazilian percussion musicians Ney Rosauro, Oscar Lorenzo Fernandez, and Heitor Villa-Lobos will be honored during this concert at the Frost School of Music. The University of Miami Percussion Ensemble will jam along with guests Esther Jane Hardenbergh, Wan Chun Liao, Shannon Wood, and Ney Rosauro himself during a special evening of Brazilian sounds.

Rosauro, a native of Rio de Janeiro, is internationally recognized as a percussionist, composer, and pedagogue. Averaging more than 150 annual performances spanning the globe from Mexico to Taiwan, he has cemented his status as one of classical music's rock stars. His unique style of composition combines cheerfully enchanting beats with memorable undertones. The University of Miami is fortunate to have snagged the great as director of percussion studies at the Frost School of Music.

He and his guest ensemble will perform a resplendent tribute to his fellow composers and countrymen, the late Lorenzo Fernandez and Heitor Villa-Lobos, honoring yet another aspect of Brazilian music that has enamored music lovers around the world: the classics. Rayme Samuels
