Tit for Tat

New Times recently published a picture of breasts on the cover and didn’t get the kind of reaction Babytalk magazine did after printing a photo of a nursing baby. The magazine received hundreds of letters of complaint from mothers who were appalled to see the profile of a woman’s breast -- no nipple, mind you -- on the free magazine. “I hear that reaction, and it’s surprising,” says Kristin Jayd, leader and chief coordinator of the local chapter of La Leche League, an international organization that provides support and information to breastfeeding moms. “Breastfeeding is such a big part of how I mother my children. It just makes me sad for people who don’t realize how wonderful it is.”

You can celebrate LLL’s 50th anniversary by attending today’s Big Birthday Bash, Baby! from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at La Scuola. The community event will feature local vendors, a raffle, and activities for the whole family. “Everyone knows what’s best for your baby, but it’s beyond that,” adds Jayd. “It is more convenient.” Leave the bottles at home and bring your breasts.
