Shooting Rubber Bands at Clams

When we heard Edie Brickell and New Bohemians were going to perform at the Hollywood Beach Clambake, we almost peed ourselves. Seriously. We remembered the time when we were making fun of the long-hair folk singer (who happens to be married to one of our favorite musicians, Paul Simon) because she did that weird squatting thing in her video for “What I Am.” The lyrics were quickly replaced with “I’m not aware of too many things, but I know it looks like I pee when I sing.” Yeah, we know it’s not nice to rag on happy hippie types, but it’s funny; get over it. If you are a big fan of Edie’s feel-good music, you can see her squatting all over the stage tonight at 9:00, but if you really want to rock out with the right kind of tunes that go with fresh shellfish, you won’t want to miss Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band on Friday night (September 29) at 9:00. You won’t be able to stand still when this accordion master gives the fest a little kick of Louisiana spice with his jumpin’ zydeco tunes. The clambake runs from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. Friday, noon to 11:00 p.m. today, and noon to 9:00 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Call 954-926-3377, or visit www.hollywoodbeachclambake.com.
