Hello, Darkness

Real Men laugh at themselves

Once upon a time, Charlie Murphy was solely known as Eddie’s look-alike brother. A cultural phenomenon called Chappelle’s Show changed that forever. Now when we think of him, quotes like “I’m Rick James, bitch,” immediately come to mind. Even though the show is over, Murphy is not resting on his laurels. “I’ve been doing my thing, no doubt. I’ve been putting the work in. I want you to be hearing my voice and seeing my face as much as possible,” muses the bass-voiced comedian/writer. Fans can hear Murphy in commercials for Boost Mobile, see animated incarnations of him in The Boondocks, and catch him on the big screen this December in the family comedy Perfect Christmas. Tonight you can see him as one of the headliners of the Maxim/Bud Light Real Men of Comedy Tour. Murphy’s light shines brightest on the stage, which makes sense, since he learned from the best. “I spent time with Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Robin Harris ... up close and personal -- know what I’m sayin’?” We certainly do, Charlie. Fear Factor’s Joe Rogan and Last Comic Standing winner John Heffron will also bring the funny tonight at 7:00 at the Jackie Gleason Theater. Tickets range from $43 to $47.
