Be a Fool en Française

By DANIEL RENZI

Published on September 28, 2006

They say a sign that you have truly mastered a foreign language is when you begin to dream in that language. We think it is when you can sing karaoke in a foreign tongue. Ooo la la: Tonight you Frenchies can show off at the Alliance Française de Miami French Karaoke Night. We know you’ve been waiting for the chance to sing French karaoke, and -- voila! -- the time has finally come. Of course, you will not be crooning actual French songs; you see, you’ll be belting out French translations of your secret shower songs, like "I Believe I Can fly" and “Love Shack.” Not that we have any suggestions of actual French tunes, since the only one we know is “Alouette,” and we don’t even know what the hell it means. (Is it about plucking a bird, or that tasty spreadable cheese?) Just be careful not to heckle any of the French singers too much, lest they scream, “Nous nous rendons!” and run off the stage. Chanter tonight at 7:00. Admission is free (très magnifique!). Call 305-859-8760, or visit www.afmiami.org.
