If you are not lucky enough to have a few British friends in your circle, allow us to introduce you to some of their slang. Fanny refers to female genitalia (not the buttocks); a chav is a working-class person who wears horrid sportswear (and too much Burberry); and a toff is a member of the upper-class who is fabulously dressed. Claudia Estrada opened her aptly named boutique, Toff, on South Beach’s West Avenue in November 2003. At the time, she thought the neighborhood was the next big thing, but apparently she realized that if you are as fashion-forward as you say you are, you have to be on Lincoln Road. You can check out the boutique’s new location (710 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach) at tonight’s Toff relocation party.

“Independent fashion is our motto,” says fashion director Juan Carlos Cajigas. “We don’t believe in denim.” Well, we did spot a few denim pieces in the store, but we were more enamored of an olive-brown James Coviello peasant dress with antique lace trim, and a black bubble tulle dress by Mimi Turner. “Toff means a fashionable person; it’s British slang for fashionista.... It’s in the dictionary!” Cajigas says pointedly. Okay, don’t be a wanker; be fashionable and head to the party from 8:00 to 11:00. Wine and cheese will be served.
