Solo Andata

Solo Andata's Paul Fiocco and Kane Ikin don't bother much with the antiquated methods of joint musicianship. Rather they Internet-swapped sound files for their debut, Fyris Swan, with Fiocco recording and sending via laptop from Sweden and Ikin from Australia. Though Fyris Swan boasts the subtle clinks and loops that populate Four Tet's Rounds, Fiocco and Ikin's works are wandering, beatless entities that have no defined beginning or end. "Old City Crowd" is framed by multitracked acoustic plucks and looped field noises, with an ongoing thump of bass and chimes that lobs through every twelve seconds or so. The lawless aura of "Old City Crowd" seemingly defines Fyris Swan as a collection of shifting, darkened-room music. Cuts like "Beneath This Stone Wall" follow closely Solo Andata's way here: Lost in squealing static and muted strings against a maple neck, "Beneath" ambles with its peers in deep, shapeless ambiance.
