And on the Seventh Day ...

What is it about Sunday that makes reggae music the day’s ultimate soundtrack? The Sabbath has become the most important day of the week for roots and dancehall fans alike, with any number of radio programs and loungy nightclub evenings dedicated to bass-heavy Jamaican music.

“As long as I can remember, that’s been the day. I guess it’s just that laid-back, chill, be-happy, take-it-easy vibe,” laughs the ever-popular DJ Lance-O. And as a veteran of South Florida’s scene, he should know. The surf-loving Rasta has been hosting a progressively popular weekly Kulcha Shok reggae night, and the crowds are coming on thick. The excellent Visions Band plays live downstairs while Lance-O spins and screens reggae films upstairs. The jamdown begins at 9:00 p.m., and happy-hour specials continue until 11:00. Admission is free during happy hour, so hurry up and get to Jazid.
