Camille

The title translates as The Thread, and the album is built on a subliminal tone that runs through every tune. A bit of electronica and a few acoustic instruments pop up now and again, but most of the music is created by Camille's astonishingly limber multitrack vocals. Her pure, breathy tones bob and weave through the mix, creating an intensely rhythmic, multilayer sound that has been compared to Laurie Anderson and Björk, but she's more musical than Anderson and less quirky than Björk. "Pour Que L'Amour Me Quitte" is a soft, beautiful ballad about a woman facing death in a hospital, but selecting individual tracks doesn't do the album justice. It's better to turn it on, lie back, and let it caress you with its remarkable ebb and flow.
