The Garden (Atlantic Records)

This summer's vacation/techno-chill record to beat, The Garden, is frankly better suited for the stereos of experientialists with tastes for Third Eye Foundation or Kraftwerk. Sia Furler stretches her voice around founding member Henry Binns's airy nick of Peabo Bryson in "Throw It All Away," the previously released scorched-asphalt radio plum composed of TLC sentimentality, flamenco guitar, and gusts of Chicago horns. José González's vocals grace a few tracks with lazy puffs of smoke, the correct shade of maleness with which to color his assignments ("Futures" being the best on board, an unhurried act of guitar-tronica faded out with Atari alpha rhythms).
