Hard to Beat Braves

If you want to see the Atlanta Braves at their best, now would be the time. Perennial contenders, the Braves traditionally begin each season slowly and, just when everyone thinks the mighty franchise has fallen on hard times, they start winning. And do not stop. It’s difficult to figure how -- the team seems to be having real problems with its pitching staff -- but the Braves recently went above the .500 mark and are chasing the East-leading New York Mets. One way the Braves do it is by playing teams like the Marlins, lousy teams, and not losing to them. Because Marlins ownership refuses to fund a decent team, and the Fish remain securely locked in last place, fans might consider another campaign, something positive, something to cheer for: sending Miguel Cabrera back to the All-Star game. The Venezuela-born third-baseman is batting .343. You can vote at florida.marlins.mlb.com. Tickets range from $6 to $90. Dolphin Stadium is located at 2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami. Call 1-877-MARLINS.
