Fast Machines and Pastel Dreams

Please be patient. We know you are bubbling over with anticipation, but you will have to wait until July 28 to catch Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in Michael Mann’s feature film Miami Vice. In the meantime, to satisfy your craving for pastel cotton suits, white huaraches (the original mandal), and the I’m-too-busy-fighting-crime-to-shave facial stubble, the Miami Design Preservation League will present screenings of the first season of the original television series all summer long. Tonight at 7:00, you can see the dreamy Don Johnson and fabulous Philip Michael Thomas in “Heart of Darkness” -- featuring the classic tunes “She’s a Beauty” by the Tubes and “Missing You” by John Waite -- and “Cool Runnin’,” where Crockett and Tubbs try to bust up a Jamaican drug operation, mon. Fluff up your mullet and take your cigarette boat or Ferrari to the Art Deco Welcome Center, but please leave your pet alligator at home. Admission is free. Call 305-627-2014, or visit www.mdpl.org for a complete schedule.
