Get Some Yada Yada Yada

You can hardly miss the bureaucratic blunders pervading nightly newscasts, but if you are looking for more babble, we have another option. Tonight the Arts at St. John’s, in conjunction with Fantasy Theatre Factory, will present readings of Eugene Ionesco’s The Bald Soprano and The Lesson. When Ionesco began learning English -- as his third language -- he was amazed by the repetitive and nonsensical phrases of his lessons, thus the workings of The Bald Soprano (La Cantatrice Chauve). Although it was originally written as a serious drama, audiences were amused and Ionesco quickly established himself in the theater of the absurd. Guests are welcome to bring a picnic and enjoy the meaningless banter of Ionesco’s characters on the back patio of St. John’s Church, which overlooks the canal. Admission is free, and chairs will be provided. Call 305-613-2325, or visit www.artsatstjohns.com.
