Stretch Yourself Thin

You can’t turn on the TV or flip through a People magazine without seeing the taut bodies of celebrities who swear by Pilates. But you don’t need a personal trainer or expensive gym membership to obtain the same results. Visit your public library and check out a book or DVD; you will see the methodology is simple and something that can be done at home. If you want a little instruction before you jump into it, today the Pilates Method Alliance is hosting its third International Pilates Day. The nonprofit group plans to use the day to raise awareness about Pilates and encourage schools to incorporate the exercise to get sedentary youth moving. “It is a great technique to teach people about their bodies and how to strengthen them,” says Kevin Bowen, executive director of the PMA. “It helps with posture, teaches balance, builds muscle, and reduces stress.” Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa.
Sat., May 6, 9 a.m.
