Give a Hoot

Be kind to the Earth on her day

She gives you air to breathe, trees to climb, and grass to smoke — er, mow — and today is the day to thank her for all she does for you. Yes, we are talking about your mother — Mother Earth, that is. Show your planet how much you care by doing something green today. Make an extra effort to recycle, ride a bike instead of driving, and pick up your trash. And then take the whole family to the Earth Day Celebration at Crandon Park. You can create beautiful art from recycled materials, take a nature tram tour, or relax on the beach with good food and tunes. Admission is free, but there is a five dollar parking fee. Call 305-479-0972, or visit www.biscaynenaturecenter.org.

Another way you can give back to the planet is to help tidy her up a bit. Clean da Beaches is looking for volunteers to help pick up trash — actual litter, not slutty girls in thong bikinis — that is yucking up our sandy playground. Registration beings at 8:30 a.m., and the cleanup will run from 9:00 to noon along Miami Beach. Lunch will be served to volunteers from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the North Beach Band Shell, 7250 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. A benefit concert by Sax on the Beach will take place from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free for volunteers, ten dollars for others. Call 786-738-4444, or visit www.cleandabeaches.com.
