Comics for a Cause

Improv-ing life for others

Improv dates back to the Renaissance, and the Harold back to the Sixties. Del Close, a member of the Committee, created the Harold in an effort to heighten the level of improvisational company. It’s a difficult form in which three scenes are created and then advanced over and over. Okay, right, you really got to see it to get it. THEY, Broward’s well regarded improv group, will offer an opportunity when it tackles the complex format as part of a fundraiser called Hope for Vision Live. THEY will be joined by Keegan-Michael Key, a seasoned improviser known for his work on Mad TV. More interactive laughs will be provided by Miami’s fourteen year old outfit Laughing Gas Improv Theatre Company. Along with the comics, the Miami Heat Dancers, Soultree Motion Dance, Crescendo, and many others will perform to help Hope for Vision, which is trying to end retinal degenerative and other blinding diseases. Tickets range from $30 to $125 for the 6:30 p.m. event at the North Miami Beach Theater of the Performing Arts. Call 305-989-8032, or visit www.hopeforvisionlive.com. After the laughs, head over to the Biscayne Commons (14831 Biscayne Blvd., North Miami) for a party featuring Miami’s DJ Le Spam.
