You have no doubt heard of The Vagina Monologues, but did you know Eve Ensler’s off-Broadway play now spearheads a movement called V-Day? The intentionally provocative moniker stands for “Victory, Valentine, and Vagina” and symbolizes an effort to prevent violence against girls and women. Ensler created V-Day in response to hearing the violent experiences shared with her by females who have seen the show. The comedian works to eliminate the shame some women associate with their bodies, foster awareness about the physical and emotional violations many women are forced to survive, and create a community of support and empowerment.

Miss L Powers, who calls herself “The Head Vagina,” brings Ensler’s funny, moving collection of monologues to Miami tonight — and she has assembled a diverse cast of women to rock the house. The University Guerrilla Troop takes the stage at 8:30 — your only chance to see its performance — at the Miami Beach Cinematheque. A portion of the proceeds will go to Victim Services Center of Miami, an organization that counsels victims of crime and other trauma. Tickets cost $20, $18 for students and MBC members.
