Hare Today ...

And still hare tomorrow

Bunnies sure are cute, but until you’ve had your phone cords, woodwork, and books chewed up by the loving lagomorphs, you really have no idea what it takes to be a slave to a house rabbit. Although they make wonderful companions for those with the time and patience to train a rambunctious bun, the House Rabbit Society wants the public to know a bunny is not a disposable pet — it is a ten year (at least) commitment. Stick to chocolate rabbits (www.makeminechocolate.org) and Marshmallow Peeps for filling Easter baskets. And if you really want a furry friend, check out the dogs and cats at the Fairy Tails Spring Adopt a Pet Day. “I’m very overwhelmed,” says Donna Halpern of Fairy Tails. “April 1 is the kickoff of kitten season.” In addition to the local animals in need of homes are three Hurricane Katrina survivors from New Orleans: Jay Jay, a shepherd mix; Jalopy, a golden retriever mix; and Elvis, a tuxedo cat. Speaking of hurricanes, Fairy Tails will also be collecting supplies of food, linens, and cat litter to prepare for the coming season. Find a new buddy or make a donation today from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Petco. Call 305-596-9694, or visit www.fairytailsadoptions.org.
