Instrumental Fashion Statement

Some art is too cool to just hang on a wall. Case in point, the eye catching works in Renée Rey’s Musician series. These detailed, terra cotta tone paintings spoke to their creator in a unique fashion. “I just woke up and had this idea of how great it would be to wear one of my paintings and then to add parts of musical instruments,” says Rey. The multidisciplinary artist found inspiration in wind instruments, fusing nickel and silver keys from flutes, clarinets, and saxophones into ornate necklaces, juxtaposed with colored beads and miniature paintings. Rey will share her creative vision with the world at the opening reception of her wearable sculpture collection. According to the artist, sporting such unique art around your neck is a sure fire attention getter. “Everywhere I go, people are just drawn to my jewelry -- men and women. It’s magnetic,” she says. Enjoy live music and intricate avant garde artwork tonight from 7:00 to 9:00 at ArtRouge Gallery, 3275 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables. Admission is free.
