Supreme Inspiration

Mary Wilson grew up in Detroit’s gritty Brewster housing projects. But thanks to the rough honey of her voice, she escaped her humble beginnings. Wilson went on to become an original member of the Supremes -- the Motown group that inspired a legion of imitators, from the Bangles to Destiny’s Child -- ensuring her a place in music history. This Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee will share her amazing life story with students and fans as part of Miami Dade College’s Black History Month celebrations. Her speech, titled “Dare to Dream,” recalls memories from her musical heyday when she sang “Where Did Our Love Go?” and “Love Child.” She will also talk about her best-selling book Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme and discuss achieving her mother’s dream: to have one of her children graduate from college.
