Reggaeton Rising

If it doesn’t bug ya, it will move ya

The booming rhythm of reggaeton has become an undeniable part of Miami’s soundtrack. Listen closely and you’ll hear Daddy Yankee, Bimbo, or Luny Tunes bubbling out of speakers all over town. And the artists of Alo Cubano Studios are ready for a slice of the action. Seven up and coming performers from the fledgling label demonstrate their talent onstage every week at the reggaeton and hip-hop showcase at Café Nostalgia. “Their sound is a fusion of danzón, reggae, and hip hop. Their lyrics talk about how they’re trying to make it on their own,” explains promoter Nayeli Diaz. Mr. Rap and A Che perform bilingual tunes, whereas hip hop duo Los Makcriaos spits straight Spanish. Magaña, Reiner Prado, and DJ Carlitos will offer their spin on the popular musical hybrid. Ladies get in free all night, but men pay a ten dollar admission after 11:00. Call 305-898-2800, or visit www.alocubanostudios.com.
