DJ Colette

Though DJ Colette is unmistakably beautiful, it is her talent on the turntables that attracts hordes of clubbers who flock to her concerts. The Chicago native was weaned on the sounds of house music legends such as Frankie Knuckles and Juan Atkins. While still in her teens, she began to promote parties throughout the Windy City. After teaming up for her first single, 1996's "Moments of Epiphany," with Mazi and Motion, Colette collaborated with DJ Sneak for a pair of singles that would establish her as one of the premier singers in dance music. Think Sade with a little twist of Christina Aguilera. Although she initially made her name as a singer, it would be Colette's work on the turntables that would establish her internationally. Her 2001 Our Day mixtape was her best performance as a DJ. The disc fused the sexy and soulful house of San Francisco's Miguel Migs with the more jagged funk of Sneak. It is a sugary, satisfying aesthetic Colette would continue to explore in her DJ sets over the years.
