Hurry, Hurry
For indie music and curry
Published on January 19, 2006
The truth is as obvious as the blue tarped roofs that still dot the local landscape: Miami took a serious beating from Hurricane Wilma. Nobody knows it better than Lolo Reskin and Sara Yousuf, the cool chicks who own Sweat Records. Their store had become a bastion of everything indie in Miami. After its Wilma washout, Sweat was forced to move from Wynwood to Little Haiti. Stumble through the darkened hallway at the back of Churchill’s Pub. There, under the watchful eyes of tin St. Pauli Girl signs, you’ll find Sweat. The location is considerably smaller, but the ladies are still sporting a righteous collection of vinyl, CDs, and DVDs. “I’ve been able to order even more music than we had before. And the variety of music the regulars here listen to is awesome,” says Reskin. Part of the location’s charm is the unique British pub style menu. Tonight is curry night, and for nine bucks, you can enjoy any of eight all you can eat dishes ranging from chicken vindaloo to vegan Bombay aloo, made from scratch with onions and taters. The feast begins at 7:00. Call 305 757 1807, or visit www.churchillspub.com. Contact Sweat Records by calling 305 758 5682 or visiting www.sweatrecordsmiami.com.
