Saturday: Make a joyful noise for these cuties
Saturday: Make a joyful noise for these cuties

You've spent some major bucks to achieve that perfect South Florida yard, and your neighbors are impressed that your palms, orchids, and bougainvillea are still standing after all of those hurricanes, so why do you leave your plants in the dark after the sun has set? "The proper uplighting on a tree can make it look spectacular," points out Laura Jamieson, executive director of the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Not sure what types of fixtures to use or where to place the lights? Tonight the Miami Beach Botanical Garden (2000 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach) is hosting a Landscape Lighting seminar, presented by Don and Terry Blechman of Outdoor Gardens, Inc. (the same folks who have installed the lighting for the "Chihuly at Fairchild" exhibit). "We try to do seminars that are appropriate to the beach communities," says Jamieson. "You'll learn how to use different colors and types of lights to enhance and add the wow factor to your garden." Walk into the light from 7:00 to 9:00. Admission is free. Call 305-673-7526, ext. 203, or visit www.mbgarden.org. (LO)
