More About

M83's third album, Before the Dawn Heals Us, suffered from the unimaginative palates of club snobs across the land, and though it was a fine album, it's nice to see Nicolas Fromageau and Anthony Gonzalez's first effort reissued in the full glory of their analog synth, keyboard, and Moog manipulations. Plush musical landscapes rendered in blends of organic and digital sounds are interwoven with vignettes washing through your speakers' low ranges. Tracks like "Kelly," "I'm Happy, She Said," and "Caresses" are replete with enough beats, bleeps, and soothing siren wails to keep shoegazers, indie acolytes, and club kids happy. Long jams like "Facing That" are reminiscent of that other French duo (Air) in their cinematic quality and tempo/ambient fluctuations. This album would of course be followed by 2003's Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, which was wildly hailed as one of the best that year.
