More About
The tangled roots of mangrove represented by some of Mutu's drawings are Kenyan and Floridian phenomena, and this local bridge that journeys to Mutu's internal landscape is a useful link between the familiar and the exotic, the reality and the fantasy of the artist's homeland. Mutu astutely believes that the impulse of Westerners to safely stow Africa in the past or in some remote archaeological zone is unrealistic. Her works are contemporary, worldly, visually elegant, and compelling.
