FRI 8/19It's been a tough week. Working for The Man has got you down. Get over your stress by embarking on the Coral Gables pedestrian pub-crawl. On Friday nights the City Beautiful transforms into a carouser's wonderland. Begin your evening with wine or beer at Books & Books (265 Aragon Ave.; 305-442-4408). The typically sedate store is hosting a fiesta with the funky live sounds of Conjunto Progreso filling the outdoor courtyard at 7:00. Wander to JohnMartin's Restaurant & Irish Pub (253 Miracle Mile; 305-445-9336) between 5:00 and 7:00 for drink specials and a rock band. By week's end, the scene outside Tarpon Bend (50 Miracle Mile; 305-444-3210) is like a block party, with a tipsy, sexy crowd spilling out onto the sidewalk. Happy hour lasts from 4:00 to 9:00. Ladies who like the hooch should really check out The Bar (172 Giralda Ave.; 305-442-2730). Its happy hour means ladies pay only one dollar per drink from 5:30 to 7:00. For Paul Bunyan-size Bavarian brews and a great live band, head to Fritz & Franz Bierhaus (60 Merrick Way; 305-774-1883). Let's Limbo!

Smaller chests do have an advantage

THUR 8/18How low can the media go? Find out during the Shrimp Limbo Media Challenge, during which the perpetrators of news and entertainment, as well as the other stuff they choose to foist on a relatively innocent public, slither under bars for a good cause. (Yes, the media sometimes do things for a good cause.) Pollo Tropical -- which is asking everyone to "bend over backwards," a joke even we wouldn't stoop to -- will provide free meals to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade and Broward for each person who participates or simply comes out to watch (and, we expect, heckle). The Boys & Girls Clubs provide a haven for kids ages seven to eighteen; the event is free and open to the public. Come watch the talking heads and ink-stained scribes scrape bottom today from noon to 2:00 at 14880 SW 31st St., Miramar. For more information or to volunteer as a participant or judge, call 305-671-1211, or visit www.pollotropical.com. --Greg Baker

If Your Heart's on the Island

Soak 'em up at Cantina Beach

SUN 8/21To enjoy the lapping waves and relaxed attitude you'd expect from a vacation in the Keys, you don't need to drive for three hours. Key Biscayne is gorgeous and the strict speed limit means everyone crawls along on island time. Take a mental vacation at Cantina Beach in the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne (445 Grand Bay Dr.). On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays this thatched oceanfront restaurant hosts Tequila Sunsets, a laid-back happy hour featuring two-for-one margaritas, cheap draft beer, complimentary appetizers, and live music. Today from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., you can sip passion fruit margaritas and nosh on housemade guacamole while you gaze at the Atlantic. Call 305-365-4500, or visit www.ritzcarlton.com. --Patrice Elizabeth Grell Yursik

Your Bra Is Showing

SAT 8/20Is it one of those nights when you just don't feel like getting dressed to go out? No worries -- you can take it off and head to Naughty Nighty Bliss, "the sexiest lingerie party of the year" for sassy young women. Slip into something less comfortable but seductive tonight at 11:00 at Pure Nightclub, 66 SW Sixth St., Miami. Appropriately dressed ladies can enjoy free wine until midnight. Call 305-244-5787, or visit www.theblissclub.com to join the club. -- Lyssa Oberkreser
