Satoshi Tomiie

Es (SAW Recordings)

Tomiie's house music resumé is impeccable. His record label of eighteen years, Def Mix, has been home to genre gods such as Frankie Knuckles and David Morales. But despite this pedigree, Es peters out about three-quarters of the way through. Fans of Danny Tenaglia's dark DJ sets will go into comfortable autopilot with this, but most will consider it an underwhelming exercise in genre clichés. There are too many looped vocals about working one's body (Roach Motel's "This Beat Is Mine") or working someone else's body (Chab's "You and Me"). House fans would be better served picking up Tomiie's 2000 album, Full Lick.
