FRI 7/29A much-needed reprieve from the season's heat and downpours, SummerFest 2005 at Miami Art Central (5960 SW 57th Ave., Miami) is a collection of multidisciplinary events that bring visual arts, music, film, and literature together. A film series for young international filmmakers curated by University of Miami professors will be shown Friday evenings now through August, discussions with the directors to follow each. A party for peace

A 48-hour film project

Filmmaking is not an exact science. On a feature-length production, it can take two days to shoot a single scene. Local moviemakers will have an opportunity to show how creative they really are, thanks to the 48 Hour Film Project. Teams work against time to write, shoot, and edit a short film in only two days. They choose their genre out of a hat, so filmmakers who specialize in horror flicks, for example, might wind up having to make a musical or Western. Because Miami is participating in this worldwide project for the first time, contestants are required to include shots of recognizable city landmarks.
