Chicago's Bobby Conn is a pint-size dynamo. At least he seems that way, especially when he stands next to his statuesque vocalist/violinist Monica BouBou. Perhaps such a diminutive stature is what accounts for his deep baritone soaring into a high falsetto à la Prince. At times he is sexy too, tongue firmly thrust into cheek for discotheque Dubya odes (see 2004's Homeland) or for fronting a powerful and preposterous group of Meat Loaf and Marc Bolan-loving, math-rocking songsters (as heard on his recent Live Classics Vol. 1). For this show though, Conn will stand tall and go solo. Bobby Conn, Robot Swan, Dick Shuttle Lounge, Vulcan Nerve, and Pinch perform at 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Churchill's Pub, 5501 NE 2nd Ave, Miami. Tickets cost $8. Call 305-757-1807.
