Mando Diao

Hurricane Bar Mute

Fronted by the creative guitar-slinging duo of Gustaf Norén and Björn Dixgård, Sweden's Mando Diao offers a balanced and cohesive fourteen-track album as its second effort. Hurricane Bar, titled after the bar in the musicians' hometown of Borlänge, where they saturated themselves with Britpop and eventually made their bones, is a stylish record that draws on various influences, and breaks from the loud/mod style of 2003's Bring 'Em In. Postpunk, Ennio Morricone, Hombres G, and the Beatles temper this sophisticated pop. The standout cuts are "Clean Town," "Added Family," and "The Dream Is Over." Fans of Jet and Interpol will dig it, no questions asked.
