Why would some 30 bands from exotic places such as Gainesville; Bloomington and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Richmond, North Carolina; and Brooklyn come to the dynamic Allapattah/Wynwood district? 305 Fest, bitch! Not as glamorous as WMC, the second installment of this punk/hardcore/indie rock confab promises to be a classic (anyone remember the Slap-a-ham fest?). A true testament to DIY and community spirit, 305 Fest will feature live poetry and puppetry as well as guest speakers from the Miami Workers Center and Counter Crisis. There will be a screening of the documentary Afropunk and plenty of vegan food for sale. Miami bands will join the out-of-towners amid an orgy of merch swaps and distro tables. Check out buzz bands Des Ark, Del Cielo, and local alt-country act Down Home Southernaires (formerly known as Pygmy) on Friday; No Idea recording artists Glass and Ashes and North Lincoln on Saturday; and local hardcore upstarts Tunes for Bears to Dance To at the Sunday barbecue.
