It's South Miami's turn

SAT 2/26No doubt about it, Miami is in festival season. It seems that there's a different outdoor event every weekend, and why not? The weather is ideal for strolling around in the sun while sipping frozen lemonade and eating an arepa. This weekend, one of the biggest is here to delight art lovers. The 22nd annual South Miami Arts and Crafts Festival separates itself from the pack with a committee of judges who specially select the participating artists so as to ensure the work isn't mass-produced. Last year, nearly 85,000 people attended the juried two-day event. This year, more than 120 artists will put the fruits of their labor up for grabs. Encounter creative treasures, like paintings, sculpture, jewelry, stained glass, photographs, hand-made clothing, and toys. Find your latest objet d'art today and Sunday starting at 9:00 a.m. Wander along Sunset Drive between Red Road and S. Dixie Highway. Admission is free. Dirty Dog Dancing

SAT 2/26Grace the Dancing Bulldog and her pooch pals are going to strut onstage to show off a dog sport that involves grooving to a lively beat in step with their humans. The performance is among the many activities for pet lovers at the Walk for Animals presented by the Humane Society of Greater Miami. In addition to the walking portion, the fundraising event includes contests and entertainment for pets and their parents. The Miami Furri-Canes are demonstrating Canine Freestyle, a musical sport for people and dogs that involves costumes and choreographed routines. Walkers -- some with pups on leashes or in strollers -- are asked to pledge at least $50, which they can collect by reaching for their own checkbooks or seeking sponsors. The event is from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Bayfront Park, 301 N. Biscayne Blvd., Miami. Call 305-696-0800, or visit www.humanesocietymiami.org. -- Patti Roth
