Genocide in Sudan Waxploitation

Benefit compilations are usually a hit-and-miss affair, and Genocide in Sudanis no different. Stylistically, it jumps all over, from the earnest punk rock of Bad Religion to Yoko Ono and Craig Armstrong. There are a few songs that stand out, though. By "playing the race card" and pointing out how the media spotlights white people who die tragically while ignoring people of color in similar situations, Danger Mouse and Murs' "Paint by Numbers" addresses the main reason why this disc was assembled: to shine a light on the Western world's lackadaisical response to the horrific genocidal warfare taking place in the Sudan. The album's a bit of a mess, really, but it's fun and worth the while.
