Trawling Trollops

Unite, and slaughter fishies

FRI 10/15If you're one of those fetishists who thinks there's simply nothing sexier than a woman and her fishnets, listen up. Ladies, let's go fishing! This time will be different, we promise. Enjoy a briny celebration of women designed to make the fairer sex feel confident about casting off and reeling in the big ones right alongside their male counterparts. During the three-day event you can brush up on your skills with a refresher course, a presentation on lobster by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, and an all-day fishing trip. Learn useful things like how to back up a trailer, all according to the polite policies of the no-yelling school of angling. Complete the weekend with a seafood feast and a trade show. Swap tales with the best of 'em and register for a competition if you're feeling particularly skilled. With this quick weekend course, you've got it hook, line, and sinker. Seminar registration costs $135 and other events range from $50 to $240. The welcome party is Friday night at 7:00, and classes begin bright and early Saturday morning at 7:30. Meet at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo; the fishing seminar will be oceanside at the Holiday Isle Beach Resort and Marina, mile marker 84, Islamorada. Golfing for a righteous cause

FRI 10/15

Anyone who is of the mindset that those in the legal profession are nothing more than bottom-feeding, money-hungry shysters should come out to witness the South Florida chapter of the Association of Legal Administration as they host their inaugural golf classic. Sure, they spent a pretty penny on the clubs, but the money collected goes to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. So if pretending to be Tiger Woods/Johnnie Cochran is your thing, or you just want to watch, come to the Miami Shores Country Club (10000 Biscayne Boulevard) this morning at 11:30. There will be a putting contest, raffle, prize giveaways, and of course, lots of cocktails. Call 305-665-7171. --Kris Conesa
