Martin Luther

Rebel Soul Music Rebel Soul Records

The title track of Martin Luther's sophomore album, Rebel Soul Music, is a dose of fun Eighties rock in the vein of ZZ Top, proving why he stands out from all the Andre 3000 wannabes the industry is currently throwing at us. Musically talented but not vocally gifted, Luther's sincerity stands out in songs such as "Rise" and "Prodigal Son;" on both he sings of urban youth overcoming destructive cycles and circumstances. Other tracks such as "Taste of Lust," however, demonstrate that Luther is no Luther (Vandross, that is). Although he plays the role of a streetwise Lenny Kravitz better than a passion-consumed Maxwell, Luther manages to blend fun, sex, rock, funk, and soul into a good debut by an artist who will only get better.
