SUN 9/26To walk around with an exclamation point at the end of your name and be taken halfway seriously, you better be a sunny optimistic sort who makes people smile when you appear. Jan Sebon!, poet, musician, and media maven, is just that kind of guy. Don't ask us when he adopted the punctuation mark, but we'd like to think it represents how glad he is to be alive. Sharing his Haitian heritage with South Floridians for the past twenty years through his cultural collective Koleksyon Kazak, a radio show on WLRN (91.3-FM), and his music, Sebon!, who has played with the likes of musicians Nana Vasconcelos and Don Cherry, has formed a new band, Mundo Vibe, boasting a Caribbean, West African feel with some jazzy, classical elements thrown in. The group unleashes its positive energy at 2:00 p.m. at the Gwen Margolis Community Center, 1590 NE 123rd St., North Miami. Tickets cost $2. Ingredients for a magical evening: soothing music, a starry night, and your honey. The Barnacle Under Moonlight Concert Series has got you covered. The Billington and Gonzales flute and guitar duo will play classical selections from Spain's Joaquin Rodrigo, India's Ravi Shankar, and Cuba's Ernesto Lecuona this evening at 7:00 at the Barnacle Historic State Park (3485 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove). Admission is $5; kids under age ten get in free. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic baskets; leave the alcohol and pets at home. No barking or drunken stumbling allowed. THU 9/23Swing by a Little Haiti bar for a zapatone cocktail to get you in the mood for Once on This Island, a play by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. To commemorate Haiti's 200 years of independence, Teddy Harrell Jr., founder of the African American Performing Arts Community Theatre (AAPACT), presents this musical based on Trinidad-born Rosa Guy's novel My Love, My Love. A revolution drives the French from Haiti, a peasant girl falls in love with an upper-class boy, and four gods decide her fate. Mixing history, mysticism, and romance, Once on This Island will bring Haitians back to their roots while enlightening other theatergoers. Performances take place at 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3:00 p.m. Sunday, at the Liberty Square Community Center, 6304 NW 14th Ave., through Sunday, October 17.
