Joanie Leeds

A native Miamian, Joanie Leeds attended Syracuse University in the late Nineties, returned to South Florida for a spell, then went back to Manhattan and parlayed a bartending gig at Greenwich Village's venerable the Bitter End into an ongoing residency. As demonstrated by her two albums to date -- 2000's My Job Application Knows More About Me Than You Do, and her recent release, Soul From My Footsteps (co-produced by Richard Oliver Furch of Fountains of Wayne fame) -- her thoughtful, introspective singing style and penchant for writing tender, fragile ballads find her treading the same musical turf as Dar Williams, Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, and other chroniclers of romance and relationships. -- Lee Zimmerman

Joanie Leeds performs at 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, at the Wallflower Gallery, 10 NE 3rd St. Tickets cost $5. Call 305-579-0069.
