Dog Day Afternoon

Man and beast do brunch

SUN 6/20
Dads and dogs are typically two peas in a pod. They're both known to urinate wherever they please, sniff the occasional butt, and frequently end up in the doghouse. So why not honor the strong ties that bind them this Father's Day at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel (1601 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) during the Bone Appetit Brunch? From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. guests of the 2- and 4-legged variety will enjoy a hearty meal by the pool, complete with the Loews Loves Pets room service menu for dogs (although any dad wishing to indulge in canine fare can do so). The highlight of the afternoon will be a show debuting Donald Pliner's exclusive BabyDoll Pliner fashion line modeled by pups up for adoption, followed by the dad and dog look-alike contest. All proceeds benefit needy doggies and the Miami Humane Society. Tongue-wagging patrons (and their pooches) will leave with a Loews Bark Bag. Admission is $30 (per human). Ugly Dick
Pundit gets down and dirty

MON 6/21
In a Celebrity Death Match-style brawl, we'd love to see Sen. Hillary Clinton kicking the ass of Dick Morris, onetime double-crossing chief political strategist and confidant to her double-crossing husband, former President Bill Clinton. If any Clinton enemy deserves a good bitch-slapping, it's ol' Arkansas buddy Morris. Why? He spent years "advising" Clinton and then turned on him in the media. He runs the lame Website vote.com. Plus he's a Fox News commentator. Enough said? No! Morris's latest book, Rewriting History, is his revisionist view of Hillary's major best-selling memoir, Living History. Morris claims that in her book Hillary is hiding behind the phony persona she created for public consumption. Look in the mirror, baby! At 6:30 p.m. at Books & Books (265 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables), Morris chats up his tome. Admission is free. Call 305-442-4408. -- By Nina Korman

Tile Play

SAT 6/19
Outside South Florida, dominoes are considered mostly child's play, but here they're a high-stakes game with consequences occasionally enriching the lives of underprivileged children. The nonprofit group Amigo For Kids' Miami Celebrity Domino Night at Parrot Jungle Island (1111 Parrot Jungle Trail) pairs local movers and shakers with the clickety-clack of black-and-white rectangles to raise money for less-fortunate youths. Tapped to push around the dominoes are Miami-Dade County Commissioner Bruno Barreiro and Florida state Rep. Julio Robaina, plus a bevy of local TV and radio celebs. The legendary Albita will perform. A tasty menu cobbled together from several popular restaurants will be offered too. The games begin at 8:00 p.m.; tickets cost $125. Call 305-279-1155. -- By Margaret Griffis
