"But that doesn't mean you don't program film. It means that you have to challenge your audience," says Coombes. "This is one of the programming things that I'm really committed to. There's some difficult work in the program, and Anonymous and Raspberry Reich are difficult for a mainstream audience. But I don't think I should shy away from programming because they're difficult."

The Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival runs each day from April 23-May 2.
