At the beginning of the 2003-04 season Miami Heat fans had a serious case of the doldrums. Megamoney draft pick Lamar Odom provided a glimmer of hope, but when the team went 0-7 all bets were off. Soon after, legendary coach Pat Riley threw in the towel, leaving the scrappy cagers adrift. But instead of succumbing to a cruddy season, the Heat, an unlikely team of unknowns, began kicking ass with its fast and furious style. The team went on to an 11-game win streak at home. Suddenly the Heat was dangerous and it blazed its way into the playoffs. Could this be another Miami Cinderella? The players take on the New Orleans Hornets at 1:00 p.m. in New Orleans. SAT 4/24Been wondering what to do with that telescope collecting dust in your closet since Christmas? Wander down to the Miami Museum of Science (3280 S. Miami Ave.) today, where a full schedule of activities runs from noon to 11:00 p.m. in honor of National Astronomy Day. Lectures from experts, Jack Horkheimer the Star Gazer, and a special appearance by "Sir Isaac Newton" complement the observing skills taught in workshops. Special presentations and laser shows will screen in the planetarium. You can also enter a drawing for a Meade telescope autographed by astronaut and real-life moonwalker Buzz Aldrin. Most important and weather permitting, the observatory will be open for viewing such wonders as sunspots and distant planets. FRI 4/23 Judging by their red-hot record (6-1 at deadline) at the beginning of the season, it looks as if the Florida Marlins are serious about defending their World Series title. Although scoring has been weak due to lackluster batting, the pitching staff has dominated opponents. Today the Fish look to avenge three losses to the Atlanta Braves. They face off again in the first of a three-game series. Catch the action at 7:35 p.m. at Pro Player Stadium, 2269 NW 199th St. Tickets range from $3 to $75.
